come fly with me.

Naturally Halloween is my favorite holiday as a lover of fashion and dressing up. Halloween is a big deal to me(see years previous here and here) and this year I decided to dress up as a Pan Am stewardess. I was inspired by the TV show Pan Am and my love of airports(except the invasive security checks, no thank you) and the urge I have been having this year to work in an airport(if only Jet Blue had uniforms like the Pan Am stewardesses in the 1960′s). And although I am going against my trend of dressing as a man and woman every other year, I knew I had to do it this year if I was gonna do it at all, so I went for it! My costume was put together on little time and money because I was certainly not going to drop $1,500 plus on an authentic Pan Am uniform on Ebay(oh yeah that happened!). I had a lot of fun with it and felt very in character, confident and poised like a real Pan Am stewardess. Happy Halloween!

when we met i felt my life begin, so open up your heart and let this fool rush in.

I was afraid this Halloween wouldn’t live up to the awesomeness that was last Halloween and last years costume, but it ended up being the best Halloween EVER! I finally got around to making my Marie Antoinette costume based on the below picture from Sophia Coppola’s movie. Okay I didn’t make it, my mama did, it was above my abilities. The costume was based on the birthday scene in the movie where Marie is coming into her own and finally having some FUN! I’ve been doing some of that myself lately so I relate. Plus I love the pale fabric with the rush of the blue skirt underneath and the feminine simplicity and beauty of the outfit itself.

This Halloween was an amazing albeit freezing night in NYC with my naughty schoolboy, Chad. It took over an hour 1/2 of playing with my hair to get it that way. I invented a new method in my frustration and it didn’t turn out perfect but once it was up it stayed up all night(and morning) even in crowded subway cars and on an especially windy night. My heart fluttered when a French men said “Marie Antoinette” to me as I walked by on a NYC street but really it sounded like “ohh Marie Antoinette” with his French accent. I would like to thank all men with foreign accents in NYC as this is the 3rd time as of late I have had the honor of hearing your delicious accents directed towards me and I thank you, you make nothing words sound extraordinary and make this girl weak in the knees. Other than that I had more vodka cranberries than I can remember(although of course I would have preferred champagne), danced, saw a bed bugs butt-crack on the subway, used my fan, watched the schoolboy get his ass slapped by a black Gaga and got our picture taken by a stranger. I didn’t even get home till it was way past the sun coming up just like Marie. It was a truly marvelous night! ?

getting in the mood.
I’m enjoying getting in the mood for tomorrows Halloween festivities by listening to the Dead Mans Bones album today and practicing my hair and makeup for tomorrow! The watching of the Halloweenie episode of The Adventures of Pete and Pete(and I was little Pete for Halloween once) is also one of my favorite Halloween traditions. You can watch the episode here and I love this site for details and incite about the episode. I also love the site My Parents Loved Halloween. Happy Halloween Eve!

but this is not a gift for an ordinary girl who takes care of a screaming baby.
This Halloween I was transformed from a vintage loving gal into the fantastical, magical, sexy, sinister Goblin King, Jareth from the 1986 movie Labyrinth. In the film Jareth is played by the incomparable David Bowie. Labyrinth has always been one of my favorite movies but I was never the girl watching it wishing I was Sarah, I always wanted to be Jareth(although if I was Sarah, I would have been his Queen). He held the power, he had killer outfits and he taught a 7 year old me what boys have and girls do not(it was the tight pants of course). For years I have wanted to dress up as Jareth for Halloween and this year I finally did it and boy did I have fun!
I laughed, I pranced, I danced like Jareth, I WAS Jareth for the night and I stuffed a sock in my pants(not seen here as it was a bit risque). I’m such a nerd that I even changed my rings tones to “Within You” for when my boyfriend called me during the week of Halloween and “Magic Dance” for everyone else. Besides having the best Halloween to date, I won second place in the costume contest at The Alligator Lounge in Brooklyn, they even played “Magic Dance” for me and I got up and danced a little. Apparently the guy told me I won because I was “hot” which is weird for a guy to say to me dressed as a guy with a sock..but it was nice to be recognized and to get free drinks for me and my friends!
Lace fabric at wrist with holes – Made by me using a damaged thrift store blouse that was otherwise going to be garbage food. I simply attached it to the blouse.
